Of course, as you know, Baba works best on crowds when their mind is focused on some amusement or excitement. Then came another tap, Baba was leaving. I was to come too. I was given a little job, to take Baba in His wheelchair down in the elevator. I was all alone with Him. I kissed His ear, He couldn't escape. The doors into 51st Street were open, hundreds of people passed within an inch of the Avatar, never seeing Him. How symbolic. Baba gestured with His hands, at once a boy came from somewhere and closed the doors. Then Charmy came by with the car (she had gotten her wish) and I waved goodbye to them all.

Another "driving Baba" story: Marion Florsheim was driving Baba to the airport and a bird flew across the windshield. She almost hit it. Baba gestured if she had killed it, she would have to come back, in some other life, to help its evolution. And that reminds one of Baba, in the Lagoon Cabin at Myrtle Beach, picking an ant up from the floor and putting it out the door.

Another day, I came out to see Baba — again leaving my job! As soon as I came in Baba frowned at me and said, ''It's all your fault!” My legs felt weak, "What?" Then Baba gestured, "Yesterday the police were here." Baba imitated them banging on the door. Mr. Ferris had sent them to see who was staying in his wife's home! Baba's eyes were merry. He gestured, "But something good may come of it." But that wasn't all. There was a discussion about the flight back to India. Again Baba gestured, "It's your fault, Filis!"

Again, I started in surprise. The airline or the flight was changed, I can't recall now, because there had been an accident on that airline, a door had blown open and a woman fell out in midocean. Even when Baba jokes, its somehow serious. Why was He involving me? I thought of this incident last year. I was on the air shuttle between Washington and Newark, when a door of the plane opened, but no one was hurt. Was Baba foreseeing this and protecting me?

Then He turned to John Bass. "And . . . the revolution in Egypt . . .is John's fault." Fatty Farouk had just been dethroned. No planes were landing in Cairo. So Baba, who had continually stressed wishing to land there, changed His plans. Perhaps His constant mention of Egypt indicated His spiritual working on the situation.

Again, we were out in the garden with Baba. He called me over for an embrace. For some reason I still can't explain, I hesitated, then Baba beckoned again; again I hesitated. Then I went over and embraced Mehera instead. Baba nodded His head. What were the sanskaras coming up in my mind? It seemed too awesome to embrace Baba just then. I felt guilty and far away. But later in praying for His forgiveness, I was purged of a lot of dross. It seems Baba sets up emotional blocks in you just so you can run around them.

This time I was to stay overnight. Baba was leaving in the morning. I was to stay on and help Mrs. Ferris get the house back in shape. I helped Kitty pack I recall and then we all went to bed early. I saw Baba's own small leather suitcase there with the initials M. S. I. on it. All Baba really owned was in it, His sadra and sandals, jacket, shaving things. What else in the world, except the whole world, did He own?

I thought I'd have some significant dream being under the same roof with Him. But though sleeping on the floor I fell asleep at once. At about 6:00 a.m., loud knocks on the front door
