"chaha" meaning love (and love of other material things) is injurious too. For this kind of love― desires—is the binding of Maya.

Any desire for any binding is not good. But the desire for Realization is so sublime and binding (in the love for the Almighty, Paramatman) that it frees one from all other desires and bindings.

Your Jivatman is caught in the bindings of the mind, the subtle body, and the gross body. So its bindings are mental, subtle, and physical. When Jivatma escapes these bindings and becomes one with the source of all desires, it has no desire left: no mind, no body, no universes; just one state—Nirakar (the state of being formless).

As long as our desires are within the grasp or limit of mind and body, they are Maya, desires; and desires are Nirakar, or formless. When these formless impressions go away, the Jivatma is given to Atman. Once the Jivatma becomes VOID of these impressions, he becomes the original Power = Atman. In all these states, Atman is the same, but the sanskaras are different. All these practices of Karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, Dnyan yoga etc., are gone through to burn up these sanskaras. All the actions (Karma yoga) you do before Realization are imperfect; they are only a means to reach Perfection, however much you deny it. But their only advantage is that they lead you to Realization, they advance you towards the goal of Truth. Only those actions done after Realization are perfect, as they alone are void of sanskaras.

All political leaders ask you to give up your life just to gain self-government (swarajya).* I also ask you all to give your life to regain the real swarajya that is your own, and which you have lost through Maya. The worldly self-government is to be snatched out of the hands of those who posses it now, and then acquired for ourselves; you have to make your own what is not yours now. Therefore it is Maya. While the spiritual self-government (Realization) never belonged to anyone except your own self. Thus it is not to be snatched out of the hands of others. It was your own, and it is your own, but you were and are, unconscious of that fact. Therefore strive one and all, to conquer and realize Self.

Then you will not only be able to enjoy Realization yourself, but you will be able to give this enjoyment to others (who are still unknowing, unconscious) which you would never be able to do in the case of the worldly swarajya. Because if you give it to anybody else, it is not your swarajya, but someone else's. But even all these efforts for spiritual attainment, this body and mind and universe and swarajya are all illusions.

What is your own Realization and then bestowed on others, is Real. Otherwise all these worldly swarajyas are absolutely nothing. This Indian swarajya belongs neither to the British, nor to the Germans, nor to the Indians, nor to us. It belongs to nobody. Then why object to anybody enjoying the swarajya?

For example in a dream some one sees a great war raging around him. Thinking it is his duty to his country, he enters into it heart and soul, striving his best to uphold his country's cause, even at the risk of his life. Then suddenly his eyes open and he realizes it is all a dream—there is no war, no enemy, neither of his country or of others. In short, he finds out after waking, it is nothing.

That is why sages say: 'try to be awake,' then alone will you come to know that this is all nothing! Then there is no mind, no body, no universe, no Englishmen, no natives. Absolutely nothing, but one Perfect State.

But all these—duty, service, etc.—are different roads to Realization. How can one reach the goal without a way to it? Therefore—do ye all serve! Serve your people, serve your country. These are all the different methods of service that you are doing here. That is real service where there is no thought of "self" at all. The Real Self is reached after such selfless service. Then the cutter and the thing cut up are the same. This is Real Experience proved by experience. Then there is no boasting talk of philosophy of higher thought or spiritual etiquette etc.—they have no value.

But again, how can one reach there without a way? Hence, find a true way, with only one aim—Realization. And for that:

*India was not yet free (self-governed) in 1926
