You want millions of things. You say, "I want this, I want that . . . " If you were to keep an account of your wants! Needs are not wants, but everything beyond needs are wants. And wanting inevitably leads to suffering. So try your best, your very best to want less and less of that which is beyond needs. Try loving, loving more and more, and then you will want less of that which is beyond your needs and want more love. Try seriously. It will be all bliss if you don't want anything. But you must try consciously. The stone wants nothing, but wants nothing unconsciously.
Let us begin dying. The more you want, the more you are miserable. If you thought seriously for just five minutes what you have wanted all your life, what you have got and did not get, and today see if you are satisfied with life. All that you enjoyed all these years, today is nil. All you suffered, today is nil. It was all illusion. So when it is our right to be happy, why try to be unhappy by wanting things? Don't want. Be happy. If you want, the wanting makes you restless. If you do not get it you are disappointed. If you get it, having it you do not want it — you do not enjoy it.
So long for one big thing. Be restless for one big thing. Long and want for one thing that will kill all the million other wants. Long for Union . How clear and simple! Try with all your heart. Do not say 'yes' and then not do it. Begin seriously now. Harmony, real harmony or it's no use. Why not really try! You cannot love each other. This you do not do. Why? Because you are not honest. That is why I love the Mad Ashram. They (the masts) are honest in their insanity. You come from afar to love me and to realize me and you become fighting cocks and hens. I think I will have to leave you all and go to Nepal or send you all to the Himalayas. So begin by wanting less. Try to love more. Try to have more tolerance. It is sublime happiness all around, and yet everybody is sad, miserable and suffering. So do you all promise to begin dying? (Each of the group promised to try.)
If I find disharmony and no willingness to die, then better to have you all go. It is not for name or fame that you have come here. I have so many disciples from the West. I do not need anybody. I am always alone, and always will be, until eternity. It is you who need me until you become me. But if you do not try, what is the use. There must be 56 Western disciples, 56 Eastern disciples, and 56 Mad-disciples.
Now let us be gay! If you were strong physically, then I would take you all to Rishikesh to see real India.
N. brought up the question of meals. How to cater for all and be economical at the same time when, as she stated, she did not know when people were coming to a meal or not. Why did we miss meals if it were not that we were eating too much?, etc.
Baba himself took up the subject saying this was N.'s point of view, and that for her it might be good to eat less, but this did not mean the idea was to be forced on all. Each was then asked to give his or her opinion on the subject of food and menus. Once and for all Baba wanted these points made clear.
You have all promised to try your best to die, so let us begin with food. Let us have no more clashes about food. Let N. go on giving the same as before. As all say, you manage wonderfully well, but what you lack is gentleness. You are much too blunt, and for the role of Mother you ought to be more gentle. Be one, without duality. Be gentle. Listen to all suggestions. If you fall in with them, okay. If not, kiss and say 'no' gently. This is tact. It hurts if you are too frank sometimes. All this I do not want. And why are they hurt? Because they are still alive like you. So all begin to try now — or seriously I will tell you all to go. Be honest in your trying. There must be harmony, love and peace. Real harmony, love and peace — not forced. Unless you are what I want I cannot give you what I want to. Don't keep closed doors, (pointing to the heart). Keep open doors, so that when I want I can enter. Every time I intend entering I find the doors closed — all for useless wants.
Petty things take up all your energy, thoughts and time. So no more. Love and forget. This is the only thing that matters, and it pays. Love, always try to love. You don't like
