Maha Yoga teaches that as God is the only Reality, — so is Love, which is the highest aspect of God; God realizes Himself only through this aspect, — Love, Lover and Beloved. This aspect alone helps towards Self-realization. After Union, it is all one, so what one really experiences in divinity and duality is loving God. After Union this experience of loving God is no more. The very great Saint Ramanujan of Southern India always used to ask "Oh, God, let me remain Thy lover forever, I don't want Union because there I can't love You". But the result of this love is Union. Sufism is love, — when you love the Beloved from the heart: Love, Lover and Beloved. First we read Vedanta, Zoroaster, then Christian mysticism, then Sufism. Personally I like Sufism best ― it is direct, from the heart to the heart, direct — not through the word. Hafiz is Sufism itself. A Sufi is one who has his heart saf (clean), who has his heart purified by love. The basis of Sufism is love. Sufism means purity through love.
'Nirvikalpa' was written about, 7000 years ago. The Sufis use a different ten call it 'Bisal’.
Bisal means Union: the same state of which Christ said: "I and the Father are One". Although many have written about it and it has different names, it cannot be expressed and cannot be explained. It must be experienced to be understood. This Samadhi is impossible to have except by my Grace.
The six lower planes can be experienced by Herculean effort, but to attain Nirvikalpa alone is impossible. Its very name says it cannot be grasped by anyone whose mind is working.' Ni ' means 'not' in Sanskrit. 'Kalpa' means 'mind, thoughts'. It is derived from the Sanskrit work 'Kalp', the state which is not 'of mind'.
The state which is not of mind is the State of God. Anything which is under the domain of mind is not the God-state. To understand clearly you must know creation, the whole universe, is of three states.
First is the 'body state' in which everything from the atom up is influenced by body. Now when we say the 'body state' it means the consciousness that is linked with the body. We cannot be conscious of anything beyond the body. We eat, drink, sleep, we fulfill our desires, all with the body. When we think of anything body is there. You cannot think of anything that has no form, space, body, can you? Think of anything vast. It has form.
Now the second state is that of 'energy'. It means consciousness is linked with energy, and now the medium is energy.
With the first the medium was 'body'. With the second, 'energy'. Now this stage is that of advanced souls. These souls can do, hear, see, smell, what to those of the body state seem miracles. These souls can use 'energy'. If it is dark and they want light they can produce light. There is an instance of a Saint always having light on his fingertips to read by whenever he wanted.
Energy can be used in millions of ways. Yogis eat and drink 'energy'. So, even for thousands of years, they can live without eating or drinking.
The state beyond the 'energy state' is the 'thought state'. Here consciousness is linked directly with mind. Before I explain the 'thought state' or the 'mind state', you must know that even in the 'body state' or the 'energy state' mind is there, thought is there, but consciousness is not linked directly with mind, it is linked with 'body' or 'energy.' So in the 'body state' mind thinks bodily, in the 'energy state' mind thinks energetically, and in the 'mind state' mind thinks mentally. Consciousness now has mind as its medium.
